How would you answer the following job interview question:
Are you sensitive to constructive criticism?
Why Constructive Criticism Is Important
Constructive criticism is a useful instrument for learning and growing; so in an environment where people can exchange suggestions, feedback and constructive criticism, everyone is a winner. It helps to give us new awareness and shows us things we may have missed.
Why Sensitivity To Criticism Is Crucial
A sensitivity to criticism may lead an individual to be negatively affected by any criticism, even if that criticism is constructive and intended to be helpful.
A sensitivity to criticism defines not only the response of the individual to critical feedback, but also one’s ability to understand and perceive criticism. A person who is more sensitive to criticism may both be more likely to experience a decrease in motivation and performance level.
How To Receive Constructive Criticism
Try to put yourself in the shoes of the criticizer and see it from the other person’s point of view.
Try to hold back on feeling offended or hurt for a moment and make room to consider what they are saying. Realize that the criticism could be beneficial.
Remember that it’s important that you don’t take criticism too personally, it’s meant to help you learn and grow and is not an assault on your talents or personality.
